Radiator Temp Sensor - Installation 700 1989

Replaced radiator yesterday. Found it difficult to install the coolant temperature sensor into the passenger side tank. First pushed in the rubber seal into the radiator, then the difficult part was pushing in the sensor into the seal. It would not go in with what seemed to be normal pressure. Ended applying a little vaseline to the sensor and using a large socket over it for leverage -- then it pressed in -- apparently very tight. Still took a lot of force.

There must be an easier way, no?
