Rear main oil seal replacement 200 1986

My '86 240 sedan has recently been leaking oil. My independent said it is unusual for the oil pan gasket to leak and more than likely it's the rear main oil seal. Is this something that can be done without too much difficulty or is this something left to someone with the know how and equipment? My brick has 318K miles and this just started over the past 5K miles.
My Haynes manual shows this procedure with the engine out and in the process of a rebuild.

Thanks in advance.
