Exhaust system paint?

I am transplanting a used cat and pipe from my wrecked 87 740T ino my daily runner 86 740T. The cat is not too bad, but I would liek to prolong its possible life if I can. To that end, what temperatures does the exterior of teh cat reach? Can I use high temp exhaust paint on it, as I am on the rest of the system?
