Putting a central locking transmitter on my 740 700 1988

Hi Brickboardians!
I would like to upgarde my the central locking system of my 1988 740 Volvo. At the moment the front door lock is the switch that activates all the other lock motors, and according to the wiring diagrams for this model and year- there is no central locking relay. To open the doors I have to insert the key on to the drivers side and it unlocks all doors of the car. I want to upgrade to a keyless- remote system to unlock the car! I am planning on removing the front lock switch and replacing it with an off the shelf master switch that is compatible with a modern central locking receiver/transmitter kit. Has anyone out there attempted to do this job on a Volvo before? If so...please tell!
