How to clean the EGR valve?

Questions on EGR valves;
1) I just purchased a 95 940 turbo. My chilton's manual says the EGR is only installed on California vehicles, yet I have a valve just above the starter and just below the IAC valve, with a stainless steel tubes running out of each end - one runs to the top of the intake manifold and the other, although well hidden, seems to run to the exhaust. So is this an EGR valve?
2) question #2 concerns cleaning. The 700/900 FAQ describes procedures for removing the EGR to clean, but is there an easier way? Can I disconnect the tube at the top of the manifold and clean the ports there, then spray throttle body cleaner down the tube that will run down into the EGR valve to clean the valve? Will this solvent damage the valve in any way? Do I still need to clean EGR ports by the exhaust amnifold?
Hope someone out there has familiarity with this valve. Thanks
