interchangeability of OD relays 200 1984

The OD relay in my 84 240 auto is shot. I have a good relay from an 87 740T. The pins on these relays are the same, however they have different part numbers, one being orange and the other being white. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable, or if there is a risk of further damage in trying the 740 relay in the 240?
