Rear end swap, 89 245 to 80 265 200 1980

Hi all,
I am thinking of swapping out the rear end of my 80 265 w/ chevy 307/TH 350 trans. This originally was a diesel car and has the 3.54 rear gear. I have n 89 245 that is from a manual trans car and has 3.31 gears. I am hoping for a little better gas mileage and lower highway cruising rpm. I have already put some 205/75/14 rear tires on and it helped the engine slow down noticably. I beleive the speedo works off the transmission on the 1980 model, so I do not have to worry about the diff mounted speed sensor. Are there any physical differences in these rear ends that would make the swap more trouble than the benefit? Any experiences and opinions are greatly appreciated.
