Hello...I have a 1988 volvo 760 turbo with 220k on the odo, that the cam seized in the cylinder head. The timing belt's teeth were sheared at the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft rotates fine. The car was in storage for aprox 2.5 years and was started at least twice a month. I removed the head and found out that 7 out of 8 valves were frozen in their guides. The intake valve on cylinder #2 , was fine, but the guide was loose. Upon dissasembly, the guide dropped out of it's hole.I called my local machine shop and advised them what had happened to the head and I was advised to replace it.I bought a used head that is in great condition, but I am concerned that the oil pump may have gone bad, and I would rather not take a chance on ruining the replacement head.. I tried to remove the oil pan as per volvo's intructions, but I was unable to remove it. I turned the pan every way that was possible, but did not succeed. How much clearance does one need between the front crossmember and the frame? (The LH motor mount was completely removed, the RH one had the nuts and bolts removed, the steering knucked was removed, the four front crossmember bolts were removed the power steering tank was removed along with the bracket at the crossmember below the middle of the pan, and the engine was supported at the top with a home made fender to fender cross beam.) Should I remove the engine instead? How long do the oil pumps last in the 700 series turbo volvos? Thanks.
