1041 locker axle - rotational slack normal? 700 1992

There is take-up slack in my 1041 locker. The driveshaft can be rotated through a very noticable angle when the rear wheels are braked.

It's definitely the differntial, as all other possible mounts, rubber bushings, etc. have been changed by advice many others who should know.

If it is normal, guess I can live with it, but the main concern is worn clutch disks, with possible failure. If it does fail, would it be in the normal non-locker mode?

Or, if it fails catastrophically, can a normal rear axle be used?

Thanks!
