Temp sender doesnt fit... im about to cry 200 1985

I'm not an expert in these things but I'll step up to the plate here.

The factory sender should work if the aftermarket gauge responds to the same resistance values as the factory gauge. I found this resistance guide in the 700 FAQ,

I don't know if your aftermarket gauge comes with any documentation to show its own requirements. If it were my new gauge, I would be wary of "plugging it in to see what happens."

It would be great if someone else could say I'm either correct or way off base on this one.

Another possibility: about a year ago I fabricated a bushing for an oil pressure sender by buying an oil plug that threaded into the block and drilling and tapping the center to fit the new sender. It's still holding and doesn't leak. You may be working with closer spaces and tolerances than I did, though.
