New 142 owner :) + brake failure 140-160 1974

Hi all, I've had my '74 4spd OD gold 142 GL with about 58000 miles for about 5 months now, and have only put 140 miles on it, only in the sun. I bought it used from a reputable long time Volvo dealership here in Vancouver. Looks like it just came from the factory...except with few dings.... Everything works great except for the clock... But just 2 weeks ago, the "Brake Failure" light came on while I was getting caught up in traffic. In addition to that, the brake pedal started to sink and still does. I find the car very reluctant to stop but I got home safely. Anyone knows what's the problem is? I traced all the brake lines and did not find any signs of leakage.

oh one more little question, how can the shift knob be removed? I wish to replace it with a billet aluminum one.

thanks in advance

Steve Leung
