Hi. A voltmeter is a good idea on our amazons, but, if you want an adequate measure, you need one with precission up to half volts. It is available on any electronic multitester (radioshack, cheap, but useable only with car stopped), or you can adquire a some more elaborated units for cars (jcwhithney has one for 40 bucks, it fit in the cigarrete lighter, no installation frolics).
