240 Transmission Crossmember Rusted out 200 1992

The crossmember support at the rear of the transmission in my 1992 244 has rusted out and the drivetrain has dropped a bit, also causing a fluid leak probably from the rear seal.

First, I'm surprised that this piece has rusted out as the rest of the car is in very good shape. Is this a common part to rust out on these cars? It makes me uncomfortable heading to the junkyard for one if they are all like that. I'm thinking I might rather order a new part from the dealer, if they have them.

Second, will the transmission leak repair itself after I get the drivetrain in its proper position, or am I looking at a new seal?

Thanks.

Roger D.
