How can I tell if the timing belt needs changing? 1986 740 GLE 700 1986

I bought a 1986 740 4 months ago. It was running rough but to make a long story short it runs fine now. I am now hearing a rough squeak when I take off from a stand still. It is coming from the front of the car. It does not happen in reverse only going forward. The only thing I haven't done is change the timing belt. The speedomenter is at 180K miles. I don;t know if this is correct because when I replaced the faulty clock I saw markings on the dash that are associated with a junk yard (warranty item). Is this a sign that the timing belt needs changing?
