91 940 Turbo Wagon -- No power

Hi there:

Just took delivery of a 140K 940 turbo wagon.

1)Topped up the fuel tank but the fuel pump is still making a lot of noise (pump is located somewhere beneath driver's seat.

2)When I nail the accelerator while merging on the highway, I see a puff of smoke (not sure of the color) and see the turbo gage needle move into the halfway point of the white zone. But car does not seem to have much power (I also have a Toyota Avalon 97 that has 200hp and that is a lot faster merging onto the highway)and I do not feel the surge when the turbo kicks in (I used to have a 1982 Saab Turbo and one could feel the turbo kicking in.

3)I do not really hear the turbo (my old Saab Turbo really whistled)but the turbo gage registers the boost.

4)Upon arriving a destination and parking, I noticed that car was idling at around 1300 to 1500 rpm (car was fully warmed up and running for about 15 minutes)

5) BTW check engine light is on!

The FAQ is really wonderful and hope that someone can point me to which general areas I should look into.

Best Regards

David
