Extreme momentary burst of acceleration without pedal depression-'90 760T 700 1990

The other day I was driving my 90 760 Turbo 210k up a hill, which for my car requires some pedal pushing, when at the top of the hill I took my foot off the gas to cruise up behind the cars waiting at the stop light and as I was crusing, probably around 20 mph, the rpms shot up to what i would guess was around 5000, and the car accelerated markedly, I of course stomped on the brakes to avoid the car ahead. After that one instance everything was fine and nothing similar has happened since. I am wondering what could have possibly caused this and whether I need to begin some regimen of maintenance or repair, or be on the lookout for further problems associated with such automotive poltergeists.

In between then and now I had the transmission mounts replaced because the tranny was making all kinds of racket, the mechanics didnt mention anything other than the repair.
