Continuously running blower motor 200 1989

I have an '89 244 and a '91 244 with blower motors that run all the time, even when the control knob is switched to its lowest setting. This still happens when the blower speed control knob is turned to its lowest setting and the AC is turned off.

I remember some discussion of this problem on the board, but can't seem to find the threads in the archives. Does anybody know how to modify the blower control so that I can turn the motor completely off? Thanks.
