A/C Switch doesn't click '80 245 200

Hello All,

Wondering if I have a bac AC switch. It doesn't click like other AC switches do when turning it on. And it never starts the compressor, though the compressor will turn when I jump the wire to 12 volts. I planned to just swap out the switch, but see it's not that easy... there's that copper wire-thingy that goes into the switch. Is that a thermostat or the expansion valve? Looks like it comes from the evaporator?
