vin decoding help - and thoughts on MB diesel are appreciated

I had a 240D, 1977, with the manual 4-speed.

It is a robust car. But don't even *think* of one if you are in a hurry. 0-60 approaches 30 sec. Top speed it ~70mph.

Parts are expensive. MB saw fit to operate the power locks with *vacuum* - no end to the trouble this can cause!

Consider the 5-cyl 300D, or even the turbo version. Neither was available in the US with manual transmission, sadly.

They are great cars when they work right. When they don't, you will hate them.
