Clearcoat geting hazy 200

I washed and waxed the '92 245 yesterday and noticed some subtle, ameoba-looking hazing in the clearcoat on the roof. In one or two small spots, the clearcoat has chipped off and needs touching up. Unfortunately it looks to me like the rest of the clearcoat is starting to go as well. Right now its very hard to see unless you look closely, but I'm afraid its only going to get worse. My questions are:

1) Has anyone been able to stop this deterioration with some sort of wax/treatment and so forestall the need to repaint it?
2) If the clearcoat needs respraying, can I spray it right over the existing clearcoat, or do I need to sand off the failing coat first?
3) Also, if I need to respray, are there any products you'd recommend for removing wax etc. to prep for the new paint?

Thanks in advance for your help.
