240 gear Indicator P,R,1,2,D HELP NEEDED 200 1991

hello,
trick learned here.

cover knob with a plastic bag, get a channel-lock wrench or something like that and hit up. you will need to pull the electrical connections off the od button, and can be a little challenge getting them back through the knob again for your first time. then push knob back down on the gear stem again--don't forget to put the plastic cylindrical trim back on.

the plastic bag will prevent the knob from flying off because of the spring underneath the black button.

be gentle when you install the gear selector cover, the plastic can crack, especially if the car has been in the sun a lot (brittle). on my 86, there is a catch on the rear which has to slide through first, then push forward until the screw holes in the front align.

regards,
