Air Conditioning 900 1995

This is my first request for help because this website is so informative I usually get my answer without having to post a request but here goes.

My wife has a 1995 960 wagon with ~125,000 miles. The problem is the a/c compressor cuts off during city driving, really when accelerating (which she does a lot of). When coasting or on the highway just maintaining speed, the a/c works great. The Volvo manual says it is a fuel economy issue whereby the a/c compressor cuts off during acceleration.

My question is, can I deactivate this auto cutoff. She's willing to forego a loss in acceleration & fuel economy for cold air. I know one of you knows the answer.

Thanks
