See if you can get Dunlop Sport A2's in your size. Tallish tires with good sidewall support and awesomely sticky. I ran them on my Ford Police Interceptor (P71 model) and just left 'sports' car in the dust on the mountain roads around here. It probably helped that I grew up driving those roads so I know every turn and straight intimately. ;-) A lot of the credit goes to those tires, though. No matter how hard I tossed the car around, it never gave any sign of breaking loose, although being able to swing the rear of the car out wide sometimes can be a good thing.

Yokohama and Pirelli are also great, if you can afford to replace them often. A little TOO soft for my taste.

BTW, the last SCCA Solo event I drove was in 1974, in a 1959 Triumph TR3A.

When I'm finally satisfied with my PV544's handling, I'll be trying it out in a few SCCA events locally. Right now I'm running Michelin X-10's.
