Charging Solution, But How to Protect it? 120-130

You may have noticed my frustration and pleading for help on my alternator upgrade issue, and my firm resolve to stick to a volvo alternator. I finally decided to buy a new un-used 55 amp volvo alternator. There were a couple on eBay, but I opted for the slightly more expensive new one with a guarantee (Sorry Ron, I'll try the swem kit if this fails too).
Hopefully it won't come to that.

It should be here in a couple of days and I plan to bolt it right on. I'm still not entirely sure why the old one died, probably sitting in a junkyard too long, even with new brushes. However, I can't rule out the possibility that I managed to kill it somehow. After all, it was fine for a few days after it was installed and again when I rewired and put on the new VR.

So, are there any tips or concerns in installing a brand new alternator on my car? I've triple checked the new wiring and tested for continuity and it should be good. I'll check my grounding continuity through the bolt and block as soon as the rain leaves. My battery is only a couple years old and has an adequate charge to fire up the car. Is there anything else I should be checking? I do *not* want to inadvertently damage this alternator.
