A close call story - thank you Volvo for those excellent 240 brakes! 200 1990

Another reason to own a 240...

Been meaning to post this story for about a week now.

Last week I was driving in the rain in typical Cape Cod summer traffic. Local divided highway ends into 2 lanes. Suddenly the cars in front of me are hitting their brakes - hard! Been in these situations before so I didn't panic (luckily!). Hit brakes hard, but modulate pedal so they don't lock-up - no ABS.

Guy in front of me isn't paying enough attention or maybe his brakes just suck - he locks them up and crashes his early 90's era Maxima into the back of a new Solara. Right in front of me, just like watching a movie!

Good news - everyone is okay, 3 cars involved in total. Checked out Maxima afterwards. Headlights, turn signals, grill, hood and radiator are all trashed!! Solara barely damaged except for broken muffler and maybe bumper. Wouldn't want to take a heavy hit in one of those Maxima's. The sucker folded up like the recycled beer can it is...

Even with my tired suspension, the 240 was completely under my control. In fact, I was able to steer the car off into the breakdown lane to prevent from being rear-ended myself. Nice - thanks again Volvo for those great brakes!!!
