This is a non Volvo issue, but I need some advice regarding an accident my daughter had a couple of hours ago in our 94 Honda accord.
She rear ended a new SUV at a traffic light at a low speed. Neither she nor the other driver was injured (the great news). Our Honda sustained almost no damage. The SUV bumper was damaged and will need to be replaced or repaired.
The brakes in our car failed. If you push on the pedal, it slowly sinks to the floor until there is nothing. The issue, is that the car received a 30K (120K) service yesterday at an independent shop ( I have been going to this shop for years). The brake fluid was flushed, and now the brakes are failing. My theory is that the shop damaged the master cylinder by pumping the brakes during the flush, rather than pressure bleeding( I do not really know this). I spoke to the shop and they asked me to have the car towed to them and they would 'look at it'. They said they didn't believe they were at fault. I asked if they carried liability insurance and the conversation ended quickly.
Regardless, I am uncertain about my course of action. I will report the accident to my insurance company in the morning, that is for sure. The car needs further brake repair. Should I bring it back to the shop that serviced it or to a different one? Is the shop liable for the further repairs to the brakes? Damage to our car? Damage to the other car?
Your thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael
