Thanks very much for the reply. You did answer my questions thoroughly.

Follow up questions:

In what way would the head be 'warped'? In what dimensions?
What could the machinist do to 'straighten' it out?

I was sure that I read that if the head gets noisy, it's probably because it got hot and warped, an warping could only be fixed by a machinist. Was this impression incorrect? There are other things I should check first (I haven't checked valve lash, for instance) but is there another way out other than having a machinist clean the head up in the way described in the previous post?

I know for a fact that this head was heated pretty badly at least once, and it's got over 350k on it, so I don't imagine it was the only time....
