Front Bearing Retaining Washer 120-130

1966 122

A scraping sound coming from the front end started during sharp turns -- like going down a ramp in a parking garage. Someone else recently wrote about this and George pointed them to the front bearings.

I took the cap and castle nut off the passenger side. The retaining washer came off but the inside opening was oval shaped. Hmmmm. While the bearing was coming off a little tab of metal came out of the groove in the axle. Of course that was the broken locking tab of the retaining washer.

What kind of damage might ensue if I drive the car for a couple of days until a new washer can be procured?'

Best regards,

Joe in WV
