Roadside Assistance Programs - Pro/Con?

Yes. Under CAA as mentioned above, each province has its own (mine is AMA = Alberta Motor Association) but it's all the same thing. One toll free number covers you I believe. Check with your local office before starting. Accommodation and other discounts (Subway sandwiches for example) apply in both countries.

You also get free maps (useful) and tour/guide books by area (sometimes useful.) I've always had great service. As mentioned, the Plus (gold card) membership is good value if you can get it. The card and a cell phone make long distances in my +-40 year old cars and motorcycles much more relaxing.
