I posted earlier in the week about my 960 dead on the road. With the help of the board I was able to diagnose a faulty fuel pump. I ordered the pump and sending unit Thursday from FCP and had them ship it next day air. I got it around 2:00 on Friday and had it about 90% completed in less than an hour. Then, had to stop and bring the dog to the vet, got back and finally finished in about another 30 minutes. Jbowers sent me instructions that proved to be very helpful. There were two things that was mentioned in the instructions that I didnt see anywhere else. On the top "plug" of the sending unit are two alignment marks at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions.. These are to be aligned with the seam on the fuel tank. The other thing that was mentioned, and I dont know why, was that if the big nut is off the car for more then a half a day it should be replaced with a new one. This was the hardest part of the job for me. Every time I tried to screw that nut on it would jump off the threads I spent about 25 minutes struggling to secure that nut. I finally got it stay on and secured it with a stainless steel clamp.
Now my fuel guage works like it was always supposed to.
Thanks to all those that helped. Its a great feeling to diagnose the probelm, fix it and then turn the key to find everything working properly.
