It won't start on it's own, I can push start though . . . 700

Grrr, my car just decided to stop starting on it's own. I can push start it fine though, so I'm pretty sure the problem is between my ignition switch and the starter. I had this once before where i just needed to a new battery, battery is reading 12.6 volts with the car off, need to get a friend to help push start it before I can get a voltage with it running. What else do i need to look at, starter motor? ignition switch? Is there a relay to the starter motor?

Right before it stopped starting I was driving and the headlights/accesory lights all went out, had to drive where I was going with the parking lights on. When i finally got it push started again the lights were fine?

I had just taken off my exhaust pipe to weld a crack in it - was working right near the O2 sensor, otherwise wasn't really near anything related to the start or the lights that I'm aware of.

It's a 90 740 turbo intercooled wagon with manual transmission (good thing right about now!) I really need to use the car tomorrow - so any good tips would be greatly appreciated!!
