Just purchased '92 960 - Help!!

I too would suspect the radiator hose connection before anything else, this is a known issue on older cars from all makes, but seems more troublesome on the Volvo 9xx due to thin or brittle plastic tanks.

If you are getting coolant into the oil, it will show on the dipstick as a yellowish-white froth, and maybe even "rust" on the stick higher up. I doubt you will find this (and certainly HOPE you don't).
