Using cd changer with CR-718 radio 200 1991

I've had bad luck with the OE CR-712 and TD-613 radios that came in our fleet of 240, finding that they fail due to intermittent poor connections in the volume/balance control.

I have had very good luck with CR-718 replacements I've purchased from e-Bay. These radios have a 13-pin circular connector marked "CD". I know from the FAQ and archives that some post-1991 Volvo radios can control an appropriate Alpine cd changer. SC-810 and CR-814 seem to be the models most commonly mentioned.

Can a CR-718 control a cd changer? If so, how do the control functions work? There are no cd controls on the CR-718 faceplate. Is an auxiliary controller of some sort required?

Thanks.
