ZF to AW Transmission swap 700

I've read the FAQ concerning the switching of a ZF to AW series transmission. What I need to know if this pertains only to gas engines or can this be accomplished on a my '85 740 Turbo Diesel as well?

I've contacted a couple of salvage yards in search of a bell housing from a 200 series diesel but I get information from the salvager that this can't be done. Specifically that the bolt holes froma 200 series diesel won't math the 740 diesel. Is this true? Has anyone done this on a 740 diesel? Also, anyone with sources where I can get a bell housing from a 200 series diesel would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Jerry
