Backup light and pinion seal 200

The back up ligthts don't work. Read the past post and try to get to the switch. This is auto (93). I guess only way is from top??? How do I get the cover off of the auto shifter console?? I pulled up but reluctant to pull hard.
Rear pinion seal is leaking. How hard is this to get the main nut loose? I remember doing one on another car and it was very difficult and a huge nut. Broke 1/2 drive breaker bar.
