240 stalls when given gas

Hello,

I have a 87 240 wagon with automatic transmission. It recently developed a stalling problem. The car starts and idles fine. When given gas, or when put into any gear except park and nueltral the car will sputter and stall. If you give it gas very slowly it will rev up in nuetral or park. It runs the same with the AMM plugged in or not.

Today I cleaned the idle air control valve and tested with an Ohm meter - it checked OK. I also cleaned the throttle body which was very dirty. I adjusted the throtle switch per the Hanyes manual. None of this helped.

I also jumpered the fuel pumps to make sure it is getting gas. Both pumps, the pump relay, and the fuel filter are all new, as well as the fuel pressure regulator.

I also put new plug wires on and checked the coil with an OHm meter - all OK.

Any ideas? Would a bad AMM cause this behaviour? Can you clean a AMM?

Ahy help is greatly appreaciated.

Bart
