'90 240 DL Wagon Electrical Issues 200 1990

I just bought this car from my friend about 3 months ago. A few things have been going on concurrently and I'm not sure if they're related or not.

A few weeks ago, the power windows stopped working. I replaced the blown fuse and they were fine. However, a couple days later, I started the car and the seatbelt warning light/bell did not come on right away like usual... and the windows didn't work again... I took some fuses out to inspect and they looked fine, when I put them back in, the seatbelt light came on and sure enough, the windows worked... this has gone on for a few weeks almost every time I start the car. I also discovered that if the seatbelt light doesn't come on, sometimes I can turn the headlights on and off and then it will come on.

Meanwhile, a week and a half ago I got home late from a wedding, and didn't realize that my brake lights stay on. The next morning, my battery was dead. I got a jump and didn't get too worried. But the brake lights have been on ever since. I have just been removing the fuse everytime I park the car to keep the battery from dying. At some point, one of the bulbs burned out, so now I am getting the bulb out warning light, as well as a 'brake failure' warning light. Last weekend, I put in a new battery and cleaned the cables and stuff. I also unplugged the alternator and was still seeing a current on the voltmeter. However, with the car running it reads 14v as specified.

Last night, I tried monkeying with the brake light switch, but couldn't really find the retaining screw on the bracket that is supposed to adjust the distance between the brake pedal and the switch. I gave up when it started raining and realized that I had knocked out the window lift fuse. I put it back and as soon as the windows were up, the window fuse blew with a little explosion.

Are all of these things related or coincidence? Is this just a faulty brake light switch or a ghost in my machine?

Thanks for your help and for reading this lengthy post!
