Electrical gremlins! Tail light/interior light issues - Illuminate me! 200 1992

Hello.

I've posted on this before, and got some good advice - but have more questions.

Here's the story. For several months, my passenger side brake light wasn't always operational while driving and idiling. I figured it was a bad connection, but when I opened up the enclosure, I found that the bulb socket had broken plastic tabs and the plastic tail light enclosure was warped. I put in a new bulb socket but it didn't quite fit. I tried and tried, eventually breaking another plastic tab, but I thought I had some success. The brake lights were working (for the most part).

Then I turned on the running lights and both passenger side tail light bulbs were not illuminating. Furthermore, I also noticed that my interior dash lights, radio lights, and the lillumiation from the gear shift indicater weren't working.

I know these arent' supposed to be related, but get ths - when the driving lights are not on, the radio light works. But when I turn on the lights, the radio illumination switches off. What gives?

Whew - any thoughts are apprecitated before I buy a new rear tail light package.

Thanks!
