Wagon rear fogs as tail, fog and brake lights...Explained...Pics 200

Heres how I did it:

First, you need to get 2 bulb holders. Like the ones in the bottom
spot. They have 2 connections for the 1157 bulbs. One is the 5 watt
running light and the other is the 21 watt brake/fog light. Go to your
your local junkyard. I think the 700's are the same too.

Then you snip off the outer plastic pegs for the 2 light connectors
and break off the tabs of the metal contacts. DO NOT snip off the
plastic pegs or metal contact for the GROUND. This is where the new set
will get its ground from.

Next you need some wires. I have a big bag of Volvo wires from the
junkyard and was able to use the same colors and gauges as stock.
You're going to need 3 lengths per light. 1 for each running, brake
and fog. Measure the back of you lights. Strip and tin all ends.

Now drill a little hole in the bottom of the bulb contact and solder
in those wires. Running light is 5 watt and Brake/Fog is 21 watt.

To get the bulb out system to work you need to solder diodes onto the
ends of the wires for the brake & fog connection. I went to an electronics
supply store and told the guy what I was doing doing and picked some
out for me. Put some shrink tube over the exposed metal.

Now in the car, remove the old bulb holder from the back of the light.
If you look close you'll see a little knib on the black plastic where
the old light bulb holder came off of (the part in the car). You'll need
to remove this so the new bulb holder will fit. I pinched it off with pliers.

The new bulb holder should now fit like the others.

All thats left now is to make the proper connections for the lighting.
You could use those little plastic wire tapper things or cut and splice
into the lines. The way I did it was to slide the new wire or diode into
the spade from the wire harness while its connected and give it a little
pinch with the pliers. It holds tight and you dont have to cut your wires.

Thats it!

Be brighter, be safer, be better than stock.
