Multi-Car Speedo/Odometer questions 200

Ok, I know this is a common problem and yes I have read all the common speedo gear install pages. I have a few different cars, and I want to make sure my mix-and-match ideas are correct. Short and sweet here is what I have:

1983 245 - wrecked parts car, died with working speedometer and odometer

1985 244 - fixer up'er. DEAD odometer. Speedometer bounces, the faster you go the bigger the bounce.

1989 244 - fixer up'er. Speedometer generally only works when traveling above 15-20 mph. Odometer only works when speedometer works.

I'm thinking pull the '85 speedo and see what looks to be wrong (what could it be?) then pull the needed part off of the '83 part car (should both be mechanical). As for the '89 does that just sound like I need "the gear"?

Thanks for the clarification.

Ryan
