Fuel problems 140-160

There is a relay, and a fuse box inside the left front fender just under
where the hood closes. The relay is on the right side, similar location.
The fuse may be the problem. If you are hearing the pump run, then the
electrics are OK and the problem is probably in the pump, next to the
gas tank on the right side. If you take it off, have something ready to
plug the hoses because they are below the fuel level and will drown you in
gasoline if left open. It could also be the fuel pressure regulator, so if
the pump is indeed running you should put a gauge on the cold start injector
line and see what pressure it builds up when it runs. Should be 28 psi.

The pump SHOULD run for a second or two after you turn the key on and then
stop. It should start again when the engine starts.

Autozone is NOT a good source of D-jet parts. A new pump is pretty expen$ive,
but you might be able to find a used one that will work.

If the engine has not run in a long time the pump might be gummed up. If you
can get replacement O-rings you can take the pump head off and clean it out
with carb cleaner or some such. Don't leave it in the motor section very long
though because it can eventually attack the insulation on the electrical
components.

In demounting the pump you may have trouble with the rubber mounts' threads
being tight. This is a pretty common problem because they are self-locking
nut and you don't want them coming loose on the road. You may have to destroy
the mounts so be prepared to get new ones. FCP and RPR are good sources.
