Swapping to newer style steering rack - any thing to watch for..??? 200 1978

The steering rack on the 78 242 is leaking at the outer seals - I have a rack from a 1988 244.

Aside from the tie rod end threads being different - (Male/female) is there anything else that has to be changed up??

I have new boots to go on the rack, and the tie rods on the 1988 rack appear good.

I did notice the 78 has teh boots tight to the tie rod - the 88 has 1" rubber disks.

I am hoping that I can do a straight swap.

Will the PS pump in the 78 be sufficient - or should I swap out the entire system, pump, hoses, & all..???

Since the original posting.......

I did an archive search - seems I need an adaptor kit to make it fit - this is blowing the budget.....

Anybody have a way around the adaptor kit...?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Goldy
