bench bleeding new M/C required? 700 1986

Seems to me the last one I did one (74 Jensen) I did not plug the ports, just wrapped cloth around them. Made a heck of a mess.
I will see if I can find a few old fittings to use. If I remember the drill, it is to place the MC in a soft-jaw vice, fill the reservoir, and use a rounded object (wooden dowel) to pump the valve till fluid appears at each port. Am I remembering correctly?
