B230F K-Engine Has Red Rubbery Stuff Clogging Thermostat 700 1989

My daughter bought the car a year ago and last Winter the thermostat jammed close with a red, rubbery something that looked like part of a small diameter red rubber band. I flushed the cooling system good at that time and yesterday the same thing happened. I am suspecting that someone has done a repair with a liquid gasket material somewhere and it is flaking off but don't know where. Where are the gaskets in a B230F cooling system besides the head gasket and does anyone have any idea where else the red stuff is coming from? The car has 152K miles on it and I don't know much of the history but it runs real good.

Thanks.
