Moving/Removing the Driver side pillar radio Antenna. What other alternatives do I have? 200 1985

Recently I finished soundproofing my 85' 240. I have spent over 120square feet of sound deadening material all over the car. However, I still have a noise issue with the stupid external antenna on the driver side pillar which makes wind rushing noise above 25-30mph. This is really annoing me and it is quite obvious right now since the rest of the car is "quiter".

My question it the following. Is it possible to get rid of the antenna alltogether from the car since most newer cars do not seem to have those ugly telescopic antennas anymore. Is there a way I can Install a much shorter universal antenna that will plug in right in the stock grommet?

No wonder why they moved the antenna at the 86-later 240s.

Any thoughts, recommendations.
