Strong gasoline fumes...where could it come from? 900 1995

Greetings,
My 1995 965 has started making a gasoline smell. I can't detect any visual clue as to where it is coming from, but my nose tells me the vapors are strongest around the air cleaner. Could detect no dripping gas from around the fuel rail.

With the AC on, set to fresh air, idling at a stoplight, the fumes are enough to intrude into the cabin.

I was wondering if it has something to do with the black canister in front of, and slightly below, the air cleaner box.

Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
kkoch
