AC compressor makes a humming noise

Compressors will make some noise when working, that is the nature of pumps and the like. Typically it is described as a large "CLICK" noise when it engages. A bad compressor or one on it's way out can definitely make some gross noises. Anything from a howl to a bang to a screech. Ulitmately if your compressor is on it's way out all you can really do is ride it out until it finally goes out and then put a new one in. I've seen compressors go a long time making some pretty funky noises.
