Preparation of replacement engine, and etc while I'm in there...PICS! 700 1990

I removed the engine and tranny together this weekend. It wasn't really very hard. My replacement is going to be from a '93 240 B230F 'L' block. While I have all parts out of the car, I want to take the time to do everything right. I'm doing rear main, 3 front seals, timing belt, and intake and exhaust gaskets. Replacement engine had 100k, I'm not doing the tensioner on the timing belt.

All pics are about 750kB in size.

1. The replacement engine has the distributor in the block. The mechanic thinks I won't have to move it because both cars had a crank sensor not hall. Is this 'probably' true? I won't find out that I was wrong until I have the engine back in and I try to connect the A/C compressor and alternator brackets.

2. When I picked the engine up the mechanic suggested replacing the flame trap, he also noted some oil leakage. Should I at least open it up? I don't know of any problems the previous owner was having, I should just check for blockages? Check the pic:

3. The mechanic also suggested getting a new rear cam cover. It's only $2 from IPD, and they have a cam cover plate for $14. Maybe I could fashion one myself. Check the pic:

4. There is a support below the radiator that is bent towards the front of the car, and only one side of the radiator is supported. I suspect I might need this bar for the splash shield I ordered from IPD? Anyway, I was thinking of banging it back into alignment, and maybe finding someone to spot weld it back onto the body.

5. Do I need a new exhaust seal below the headers where I disconnected to remove the engine? The current one is intact, though brittle it seems strong.

6. I will replace the transmission fluid just as regular maintenance. I've seen in the FAQ that volvo quit recommending cleaning the screen in the tranny. So I don't need to drop the pan?

7. I noticed there is a lot of oil on the underbody of the car. Should I try to clean this, what should I clean it with? I'm not really sure what the state of the rustproofing should be. But my other volvo has a hard black coat all over the underside that was fairly dry. This car is much 'wetter'. Should I do something about this?

I guess this was a lot of stuff, I wasn't sure if separate posts would have been good, or spam.

Thanks for comments,
Nathan
