trunk shocks....check connection first. 700

just around the coldest day last winter (-32C) the trunk struts on my 1990 740 sedan started balking. it felt as though one went and the stress on the other was too much for it to handle. common problem i heard, especially in colder weather. before ordering new ones i thought i'd pull one to check it's model number. turns out they were both unhooked at the frame, not at the hinge. i guess they lifted off the open connection when i forcefully pushed the trunk open at -32c. no retainer clip on the front end connection so i'd recommend lifting the carpet and taking a peek first. saved about $30-40.
