Airbox thermostat 700 1989

Can someone explain to me how this thing works? I finally got my airbox apart and found the thermostat, but I'm confused by it. It doesn't appear to be electrical since there are no wires going to it. It appears that the thermostat pushes back from the airbox which pushes a lever that moves the door from one side to the other, letting in air from the radiator instead of the engine. But how does it push if it's not electrical? Am I completely off base here?
